Description |
![]() "The “Choices” that Individuals Make: Demography's Perspectives on Stratified Reproduction, Gender, and Choice in our Neoliberal World" Stratified reproduction identifies the way that social and even biological reproduction is unevenly distributed across populations. In this talk I will discuss how reproduction is stratified, and then think through stratified reproduction to the lessons demographers can take from that work and perspective. Stratified reproduction is important in its own right, maybe particularly so in this day of increasing assisted reproductive technologies. But stratified reproduction is also "good to think with" and I will discuss the insights it gives us about demography and demography's assumptions about individuals, about choice, gender, and the neoliberal world we live and work in. |
