Presenter(s) | Dr. Neil K. Mehta, Assistant Professor of Health Management and Policy, University of Michigan |
Description |
![]() "Age at immigration, generational status, and death among children of immigrant mothers: A longitudinal analysis of siblings" Dr. Mehta will discuss recent and ongoing work into the effect of migration experience on the health and mortality of children of immigrants. While studies have examined how childhood migration experience relates to socioeconomic achievements, there has been less work on the effect on health and mortality. Dr. Mehta has investigated the association between age at immigration and generational status and the long-run mortality experience of children of immigrants in Sweden. His study is based on population register data and compares results from population-average and sibling fixed-effects approaches. Results demonstrate that among siblings, being foreign-born is associated with a mortality penalty. Effects by age at migration were more variable. |
