Still on the fence about coming to the conference? We just found out that Anne Herron, acting director in the Office of the Director at the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) at SAMHSA will also be joining us! The activities of her office include working to close the gap between available treatment capacity and demand, supporting the adaptation and adoption of evidence-based and best practices by community-based treatment programs and services, and improving and strengthening substance abuse treatment organizations and systems. We are excited to have her join for this event.
In the afternoon, we will be hearing from foundations that help support research and services related to substance abuse. Joining us from the Highmark Foundation is Dr. Charles DeShazer. Dr. DeShazer is senior vice president and chief medical officer for the Highmark Health Plan. He is responsible for direction in the development, organization, management, and strategic direction of Highmark Health Plan's processes related to health care quality, efficiency, and cost improvement. We look forward to hearing his thoughts on the types of interventions needed to move the needle on substance abuse.
Additionally, Heather Major will be joining us from the Independence Blue Cross Foundation where she is manager of foundation programs. Heather contributes her expertise and aptitude in finance, public health, and health policy to advance the Foundation’s mission and position as a regional philanthropic leader in public health. Heather is responsible for guiding the strategic vision of the $60 million Foundation, and oversees $6 million in regional grant funding annually, as well as Foundation research and publications.
