![]() “HIV Self-Testing and Community-Based Linkage to Care for Men in Tanzania: Progress and the Potential Impact of the PEPFAR Freeze” In Tanzania, where 1.4 million people live with HIV, men remain disproportionately underserved in testing and treatment, fueling transmission and poor health outcomes. This presentation will highlight progress made through national efforts like the PEPFAR-funded Furaha Yangu! (My Happiness!) HIV Test and Treat campaign, which expanded HIV services for men, and the 2019 adoption of HIV self-testing (HIVST) into national guidelines. Now part of Tanzania’s national HIV guidelines, HIVST increase access and privacy, but still requires facility-based follow-up for treatment. The discussion will highlight structural and social barriers that hinder men from accessing follow-up care after HIVST and the potential impact of the PEPFAR funding freeze on community-based strategies to improve linkage to HIV treatment and prevention. |
