The Administrative Committee on Research (ACOR) 2018 Career Achievement Award was presented to Sherry Yocum at the Annual Retreat Conference on September 7 at the Penn Stater Conference Center. She was recognized for her outstanding contributions towards the support and advancement of Research Administration over her 35-year career at Penn State.
“Sherry, who has served as the administrative director of SSRI since its inception in 2001, is truly the bedrock of our institute. She brings more than 30 years of experience as a staff member at Penn State and has served in a leadership role in SSRI for almost 20 years,” said Susan McHale, director of SSRI. “Her impact on SSRI is immense in that she has literally developed its entire administrative structure, supervises all administrative and financial staff, and is the go-to person for us all.”
Beyond her role at SSRI, Sherry has also had an impact on the university as a whole. She has been a member of Penn State’s ACOR Executive Committee for nine years and has twice served as an instructor in the ACOR Certification and Education Series (ACES). On a national level, Sherry has been a member of the Society of Research Administrators since 1993 and the NICHD’s Population Research Center Administrators group.
